Local food, brews and ideals

Established in 1985, Casa Nueva nestled itself firmly in the hearts of Southeast Ohioans with its unique take on Mexican-inspired dishes and community-focused business practices.

If you ask an Athenian what makes Athens “Athens,” nine times out of ten Casa Nueva would be part of their answer.

At Casa Nueva, the connection between local food providers, worker-shareholders and customers is put front-and-center, providing a fulfilling dining and drinking experience that showcases the values of a town.

The worker-owned cooperative restaurant embodied movements such as locally sourced food for decades before “locavore” was a buzz-word. You can taste the dedication in every house made salsa, tortilla and albóndiga.

Throughout the year, observe the changing seasons in Casa Nueva’s rotating menu. In Spring, find salsa verde or pesto made with ... Read More

Head to Columbus Road for Devilishly good brews

For years, Devil’s Kettle owner and brewer Cameron Fuller won award after award at the Ohio Brew Week Homebrew Competition.

As the accolades piled up, Cameron kept being pushed in one direction– open his own brewery.

Thankfully for Athens (and Ohio) he did just that in June 2015. He took his recipe book and worked to scale up those decorated brews on a state-of-the-art system, while creating some new ones in the process.

While the brewery’s name is somewhat sinister, Fuller is also fan of understated and approachable beer styles such as English Milds and dark lagers, providing a refreshing respite from the world of extreme brews. But he can do those too. Just watch for the range of unique offerings and barrel-aged beers he’s sure ... Read More

“We Make Beer For You.” Land-Grant brings craft and Columbus pride to Brew Week

Land-Grant Brewing is named for the Morrill Act of 1862 which set aside federal land in each state for public universities. The love of a certain Columbus-based school inspired the name, and the love of the city itself led the owners of Land-Grant to set up shop in the area.

Luckily for us they don’t hoard all of that good beer up in Columbus!

Land-Grant has cranked out a huge range of ... Read More
