March First Brewing was founded with the same spirit of independence and tenacity as our nation. Our name pays homage to the great state of Ohio, founded March 1, 1803. We specialize in “drinkable” craft beer, cider, and spirits, and proudly brew, distill, and bottle in Cincinnati, Ohio. We admittedly do not follow popular trends or industry norms, and it is in precisely this that makes us delightfully unpredictable.
Why do we do it? To create an ever-growing number of well paying, rewarding and sustainable American jobs by producing the highest quality, handcrafted adult beverages designed to make the world a happier place

We are a husband and wife team who manages both the farm side of the operation, beekeeping and growing an apple-peach-pear orchard, as well as the production side of our winery by creating some of the best artisanal, small-batch meads, ciders, and fruit wines that Athens, OH has to offer.
West End Ciderworks and Distillery join Ciderhouse on west side
Just over 5 years ago, West End Ciderhouse established itself as a truly unique and impactful destination for fine fermentables.
If you’ve been there, you won’t be surprised to hear they were named “Best bar for people over 30” in the Athens News Best of Athens 2019 Readers’ Choice Awards. The bar is a welcoming yet high-end reprieve from hectic uptown Athens.
Now, the West End institution has taken over more real estate, bringing their production from Meigs County to right across Schafer Street. This new West End Ciderworks and Distillery facility marks the continued dedication to neighborhood and craft that drives owners Kelly Sauber and Deanna Schwartz.
If it’s a liquid and can be made in-house and with local ingredients, rest-assured West End makes it. This means ciders, meads and cysers all come from 100% Ohio apples and honey. House made vodka, gin, bourbon, liqueur and brandy feature prominently in classic and seasonal cocktails alongside daily fresh squeezed juices and other top shelf, seasonal ingredients.
As for the new facilities, West End Ciderworks and Distillery will be open for off premise spirit sales of the new West End Distillery line, cider samplings and sales, special events, and tours by appointment.
Besides the wide range of in-house products, West End Ciderhouse curates a dynamic guest list of beer, cider, and liquor. It is a can’t-miss destination during Ohio Brew Week, or any Athens trip.
Where everybody calls you names
Yes, that’s Tony’s tagline, and it’s fantastic, just like the bar itself. Even though Brew Week is a celebration of Ohio craft beer, we highly suggest that you stop in at Tony’s for a hot nut. If you don’t know what that is, the only explanation we’ll give is that it’s a shot-style drink and you want to buy some for you and your whole crew.
